2009 Workshops
Fireworks Workshop

Having covered more than three dozen fireworks show in just as many different cities, Matthew not only has the techical expertise of shooting brilliant, colorful fireworks but also an extensive knowledge of locales and ideal vantage points.

The dates for the fireworks workshop is TBD until we are able to determine the best municipalities to visit as so to get the biggest bang for our buck (pardon the pun).

Bay City is always a favorite as it is both a challenging show as well as lengthy, giving plenty of time to experiment with different settings, filters and special tricks you will be taught.

Mackinaw City
The bulk of our workshops are conducted entirely in the field with some "classroom" type instruction given during the "less desireable" daylight hours and in the evening after sunset when time permits. We choose to spend most of our time shooting and firmly believe that OJT is much more productive than that book learning stuff.

Meals are planned democratically with each group. Some groups choose to eat picnic type lunches and dinners in order to maximize shooting time. However, small town Michigan has many fine restaurants specializing in Great Lakes whitefish, a staple in this region.
DISCLAIMER
(the easily offended may want to prepare themselves)

At Splash of Sunset we will NOT tolerate any forms of disrespect to the environment (including taunting the locals).
  • If you smoke, butts do NOT get thrown on the ground or out of car windows.
  • If you eat or drink, the wrappers do NOT go on the ground. (PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT!)
  • No one cares that you were there (other than those who are enjoying your photographic memoirs of course), absolutely no graffitti or tagging or carving, etc. (I know this sounds a bit overzealous, but trust me, it happens . . . A LOT!)
  • If by chance you are lucky enough to encounter wildlife, leave it wild! That bear cub might be cute and cuddly, but trust me, his mother is not!

Any disregard for this cardinal rule will result in your being ridiculed, stoned and cast out of the village!
